BURP is an abbrevation for Big and Ugly Rendering Project. You can render short and long/big animations with it, made with the animation program Blender.
Animations and pictures which are uploaded to the project are called Sessions. An animation is like a video splitted in frames, which can be splitted into parts, depending on the calculation intensity. A WU is mostly equivalent with a part.
The farm can work on several sessions, the distribution of WUs depends on a priority server-side, which can be determined from the admin. The calulaction time of a WU can vary a lot, depending on the processes, which are necessary for the render - from seconds to hours to days, the latter is mostly prevented by splitting.
RAM usage is depending on how extensive a scene in a session is. For example the more textures are needed for the render, the more memory it needs. It is advised to check the hardware requirements of a session on the server-status-page before crunching.
Rendered sessions which are finished and coded server-side and available on the video gallery, can left unused files on the own computer. It is therefore advised to regularly check the BURP folder of BOINC if there are remaining files.
A CUDA app of Blender is used since a short time for test purposes, but it is still in development and not yet that effective.
